Dear Artist, Art Dealer or Business Owner,

The Brownstown Chamber of Commerce would like you to consider becoming a part of our community. The Chamber’s focus is to promote economic growth in our town, but we believe that enhancing cultural and historical opportunities will have a residual effect on commerce. By bringing unique specialty shops or restaurants here, we hope to make Brownstown the center for shopping, recreation and fun.

Located along U.S. 50, about 15 miles west of Interstate 65, historic Brownstown is not only the heart of Jackson County, but also its county seat. Nearly 3,000 residents enjoy traditional events such as the Brownstown Melonfest, Jackson County Fair and Hometown Christmas. Every weekend during the summer, hundreds flock to the stock-car races at the fairgrounds. Brownstown serves as an ideal location for family activities, reunions and social events at the beautiful town park and modern pool, Jackson-Washington State Forest three miles to the east, Hoosier National Forest to the west and Starve Hollow Recreation area 10 miles to the south.

Brownstown also lies at a busy intersection of traffic from I-65 via St. Rd. 250, Washington Co. from St. Rd. 135 and Bedford from U.S. 50. Two new industries are coming to Brownstown in the near future, bringing with them new employees who will want to eat, shop and live near their workplace. A 50-Plus housing complex is located on the edge of town, along with a small residential subdivision.

We have modern schools, a beautiful public library, a community theater, the Historical Society pioneer village and museum complex, an active genealogy society and many service organizations. Visitors can view the longest historic three-span covered bridge in the United States at Medora, two unique round barns or a panorama of several townships from Skyline Drive.

We hope that you will visit our community soon and consider bringing your studio or business to Brownstown. There are many commercial and residential properties available at a substantial savings from those in larger cities or tourist spots, while the potential for growth is yet untapped. Your unique art, crafts or food items will no doubt make Brownstown a mutually beneficial opportunity for the town and your business.
