COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES PLANNED FOR 2010 MELONFEST WEEKEND
Several activities are being planned for the weekend of Sept. 10 and 11, along with the annual Melonfest on courthouse square. Those attending the festival are invited to stop by to support these organizations.
The Brownstown Order of the Eastern Star #264 will be serving breakfast at the Masonic Lodge on Main Street from 7-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11. The menu will consist of biscuits and gravy, ham, scrambled eggs, fruit and coffee, milk or juice. A free will offering will be taken.
The Brownstown United Methodist Church will be holding their annual ice cream social on Saturday, Sept. 11, from noon until 4 p.m. The church is located on the corner of Walnut and N. Poplar Sts.
The Brownstown Exchange Club will host their annual 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Sept. 11, during the Melonfest. Registration will start at 7 a.m. at the Jackson County Park, two blocks east of the courthouse, at E. Walnut and Jackson Sts. The event will start at 8 a.m. and proceeds support various community service projects.
The History Center will hold their ham and beans and cornbread dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday. The museums will be open for tours throughout the weekend.
Southern Indiana Center for the Arts will have an arts display in the courthouse on Saturday and will be selling handmade ceramic pottery bowls to benefit the Brownstown Fund for the Arts.
The Melonfest Committee will be selling tickets at the information booth for a beautiful quilt made by women of the Brownstown United Methodist Church and chances on a 50/50 drawing.
